I have made many posters and flyers for bands over the years. This is the original ink illustration for a poster, which later became the iconic merch design and branding asset for the band Kalu and the Electric Joint. Kalu James has been a dear friend of mine for many years, and I've seen his band form from a small monthly residency at the legendary Continental Club in Austin, Texas, - to many years later, watching him play sold-out theaters and many festivals. I have been making artwork for this band since the very beginning, and have countless pieces of original work in my archive. I don't think I'm quite ready to give this one a new home yet… since I think it's one of my favorite illustrations i’ve ever made. I created a backdrop space at the top for the band names, show dates, and featuring artists text which I hand draw on a different layer to be added in later.
