Every time I make a new recording, I keep a dedicated journal that I fill up with production ideas, mix notes, and lyrics for that given album. Inevitably, some grocery lists, doodles from my daughters, and other random things show up in there as well. This journal was created and kept for my 5th studio album, “We Are Like Warriors,” and in addition to those aforementioned items, it has hand-written lyrics to all 12 songs in the back. I began recording that album in my 42 square-foot shed/studio in the spring of 2019 and finished it in my basement studio in late 2020. It was finally released on my birthday, February 2, 2021 and never has an album taken me longer to produce. I was interrupted by a busy gig schedule, producing records for other people, a pandemic, bursts of new songwriting inspiration, and the busy demands of family life. If you look close enough, you’ll see that arc of time and life in this journal.
