Time flies. This was our first 12” statement to the world - recorded at Desco 440 Studios and the first iteration of Daptone Studios. Once we got the finalized version of the vinyl, I spent weeks carrying 1-2 boxes of thirty of them on my shoulders throughout the East Village, hawking them on consignment or wholesale to A1, Dub Spot, Final Vinyl, Academy and at Earwax, the one record store in Williamsburg at the time and moving them hand to hand overseas while on tour with the Dap Kings. 

The songs on this 12” were incorporated into our first album “Liberation Afrobeat Vol. 1” which we self-released. A year later, the guys who ran Ninja Tune were in NYC record shopping and bought a copy of our record at Other Music (RIP). A few days later, they offered us a record deal, rereleasing that album with new artwork and some additional live and studio tracks and released our second album “Talkatif” in 2002. 

The sticker on the upper corner was one of the ones of the various handmade logos we used and gave out to showers and plastered in dive bar bathrooms and phone booths around NYC. 

As far as I know this is the only one of these out there and my only copy for certain.
